  • How about exploring, photographing and enjoying photo workshops in the stunning environments of Queensland’s Tropical North? The rainforest is amazing as is the nature of the region. We have taken several groups over the years and know key shoot locations and the best timing.

    We will be based in beautiful Malanda, just over an hours drive inland from Cairns. We will target, stunning rainforests with unique waterfalls, creative nature from butterflies to birds and more.

    Our workshops will be aimed at helping you to take better images and then, what you can do with those images. Most importantly, we put your photography first!

  • DAY 1 - CAIRNS

    June 5

    We suggest that you have arrived at least one day earlier in Cairns. We start today at 2 pm with a workshop that will help you maximise the week of amazing shoots ahead. Learn how to visualise a result before you shoot. It is the key to great results. This is followed by dinner, which is included. Welcome to Tropical North Queensland.

    DAY 2 - CAIRNS TO LAKE ETCHAM (Atherton Tablelands)

    June 6

    We depart Cairns in our exclusive minibus at 7 am this morning, driving south, and then west to target waterfalls and rainforest. These are not just any waterfalls, but some of the most beautiful in Australia. A full day of moderate walking with an emphasis on learning the best techniques and trying some angles that are new and creative. We arrive at our lodge and overnight. Tonight includes unique shoots of rare animals in the wild.

    DAY 3 - ATHERTON TABLELANDS REGION

    June 7

    Our accommodation is a perfect base as it offers stunning shoot opportunities from waterfalls to rainforests and creative images. We target fantastic locations, and Darran uses his experience for the best rainforest, nature and creative shoots. Platypus are very possible, along with different-shaped mushrooms, backlit plants and rare possums and other animals. Some subjects will be just metres from your accommodation!

    DAY 4 - ATHERTON TABLELANDS REGION

    June 8

    Another full day of photographing birds, and nature and exploring photography beyond your current boundaries. We will try new lighting techniques and process some of the results during an indoor workshop. Many subjects are close to your accommodation and some are rare or very uncommon like striped possums, rifle birds, and frogs, the list is long. The lodge has a special history of working with nature to show you the best of the region. Accommodation - Lodge

    DAY 5 - ATHERTON TABLELANDS REGION TO PORT DOUGLAS/DAINTREE

    June 9

    Final morning shoot to capture those subjects that have most interested you. Your photo guides will help. After breakfast, we depart with a stop for the tiny Mareeba rock wallabies. Our journey continues across the Atherton Tablelands, dropping down to the coast and to beautiful Port Douglas where we are based for the next 2 nights. Accommodation - Port Douglas TBA

    DAY 6 - PORT DOUGLAS/DAINTREE

    June 10

    Early morning exclusive cruise on the Daintree River. This is a fantastic experience with kingfishers, crocodiles and other nature subjects, sometimes up close. We add another workshop and finish the day with another Daintree River cruise. Different light, and warmer conditions guarantee new nature images and the chance to be creative. Tonight, we show our favourite 10 images of the week. The diversity is incredible!

    DAY 7 - PORT DOUGLAS TO CAIRNS - WORKSHOP ENDS

    June 11

    Final morning shoot at The Habitat wildlife park. This will offer you animals that you most likely have not seen before. We arrive in Cairns at 12 noon and at the end of the workshop. Note that you should not book any flights until after 3 pm as timing can not be guaranteed. You may like to book another night’s accommodation?
