Join WPA on it’s maiden adventure to the stunning wild’s of Costa Rica in Central America, where you will discover a remarkable country that harbours an impressive array of over 500,000 fauna species. Costa Rica boasts the largest percentage of national parks and protected areas compared to any other country worldwide, covering about 25% of its land area. One of the key factors contributing to Costa Rica’s extraordinary biodiversity is its unique geographical location. Acting as a land bridge between North and South America. Roughly three to five million years ago, Costa Rica facilitated the mingling of distinct flora and fauna from both continents. As a result, this ecological crossroads is home to hundreds of endemic species, including frogs, snakes, lizards, finches, hummingbirds, gophers, mice, and more. Costa Rica’s rich biodiversity owes much to its diverse range of ecosystems. From tropical rainforests and deciduous forests to Atlantic and Pacific coastlines, cloud forests, and mangrove forests, a wide variety of habitats can be found throughout the country. These distinct environments provide refuge for a staggering diversity of species. In particular, bird enthusiasts will be captivated by Costa Rica’s avian abundance. Your WPA guides, along with local expert nature guide, will use their experience to offer a wide range of subjects and unique shoot opportunities.

DAY 1 - SAN JOSÉ

October 27

We include accommodation tonight, meeting at 4pm for a workshop and a chance to ask questions. We include our first group dinner. Hotel Accommodation - (D)

DAY 2: WATERFALLS GARDENS & ARENAL VOLCANO

October 28

Today our destination will be Volcan Arenal National Park. We will visit Cataratas de La Paz (La Paz Waterfalls Gardens), where you will have the unique opportunity to observe and photograph a group of five waterfalls that run through a dense tropical cloud forest. A series of platforms that were placed along the ridges of the canyons are perfect for taking photographs. Plus we can shoot amazing wildlife in the rainforest. The trails will take us through a “butterfly farm”, a winter-house where stunning tropical butterflies fly protected from predators. Plus, we visit an exhibition of tropical snakes and a garden where you can shoot dozens of species of hummingbirds! Costa Rica is one of the most diverse countries for hummingbirds in Latin American. After lunch, we continue to the Tilarán Range, where we will observe the most active volcano in Costa Rica, the Arenal. During the day it offers a show of smoke and ash clouds emerging from the crater, and at night, an incredible series of explosions of fire and lava can be photographed from your room balcony! DAY 3: VOLCAN ARENAL NATIONAL PARK

October 29

Explore the trails and hanging bridges of Volcan Arenal that will give you more chances to shoot the tropical flora and wildlife of a spectacular lowland tropical forest, and of the active volcano if it is not cloudy. Lunch in a nearby sustainable farm, Finca Don Juan, where we can taste the organic meals produced on the property. Afternoon visit to La Fortuna, a picturesque nearby town and return to the hotel to enjoy the thermal springs.
