More landscapes, northern lights, nature, waterfalls, wilderness…
WHAT’S THIS ADVENTURE ABOUT?
Our fifth tour to Iceland will maximise your experiences – from ‘Northern Lights’ to photography in one of the world’s great wilderness locations. We also include most meals and a local expert driver/guide.
ICELAND 1 – starts and finishes near Reykjavik and includes the fantastic locations south and east of the island to Jökulsárlon glacial lagoon and surrounding region
ICELAND 2 – Starts and finishes near Reykjavik and covers fantastic locations north and west of the island.
Combine the two tours for an ULTIMATE Iceland experience!
Iceland is close to the Arctic Circle and offers stunning landscapes from fiery volcanoes to cold ice fields. We have selected a great time to target the famed Northern Lights (as mid winter weather is the worst weather in Iceland) and the gorgeous subjects that this unique island offers. This photo tour will offer you a wealth of subjects from blue ice glaciers, to colourful buildings in wild landscapes, plus seascapes, waterfalls, thermal activity. We will maximise locations for evening shoots. In particular, we are looking at great foreground subjects to add to the scene. In nature, nothing is guaranteed. However, our local expert guide and your experienced professional photo guide will pick unique locations and offer quality time for the best Northern Light experience possible. And we will target the stunning creative options at Jökulsárlon glacial lagoon and surrounding region. This is truly one of the top shoot experiences for those keen to be creative. Your professional guides will help you every step of the way, offering quality time in magic locations!
A great land package! All your accommodation, most meals, expert local driver/guide, professional photo guide. You simply need to organise flights and to get yourself to the start of the tour and for the departure. Julia is happy to help you.

ITINERARY TO ADVENTURE…
DAY 1 – REYKJAVIK – Northern Light Inn
We recommend that you arrive ‘at least’ a day earlier to help jet lag. (Julia can book extra accommodation to suit.) We meet at 5pm today for tour information and a workshop to help you maximise your photo interests for your shoots. Note that our accommodation is 45 minutes out of Reykjavik. This is because it is a better location for Northern Lights shoots and close to the airport. How exciting the adventure begins! We include our first group dinner. Accommodation at Northern Light Inn – very cool name and a great 4 Star hotel that will offer you your first chance at stunning Northern Lights! (D)
DAY 2 – INTO THE GLACIER – BORGARFJÖRÐUR
Come join us for an adventure that will lead you to the untouched beauty and raw nature of Langjokull, Iceland’s second largest glacier. Enjoy the opportunity of a lifetime as we journey up the white slopes and go deep inside the man- made ice tunnels leading to the blue heart of the glacier. We will ride in modified glacier vehicles specially made to explore the glacier environment and enjoy the view as we drive on top of the ice cap. Our experienced guides will lead the way and make sure that everyone is both enjoying themselves and learning the basics of glacier knowledge. Hraunfossar – Lava Falls – are beautiful and unusual natural phenomena. Clear, cold springs of subterranean water seep through the lava and run as tiny waterfalls and rapids into the Hvita River. Barnafoss – The meaning of this waterfall translates into “Children’s waterfall”, but the signs here indicated that there was a saga describing why it got this name. The saga said that there were two children in the Hraunsás household who were supposed to stay home while the parents went to church for Christmas Mass. When the parents returned from mass, they discovered that the children had disappeared (possibly because the children got bored and decided to go out).
They then followed the children’s tracks to this waterfall at the stone natural bridge where the tracks disappeared. The mother concluded that the children must have fallen into the river and drowned. Then, the mother had the arch destroyed in order to ensure no one else faces a similar fate.
Deildartunguhver – Is Europe’s most powerful hot spring. It provides 180 l/sec of 100°C hot water. Most of the water used for central heating in the towns of Borgarnes and Akranes is taken from Deildartunguhver. The hot water pipeline to Akranes is 64 km long, the longest in Iceland and the water is about 78 – 80 degrees when it reaches Akranes. If you take a shower anywhere within a 65 km radius of the spring, you have already bathed in the hot water from this powerful spring!

DAY 3 – KIRKJUFELL & ARNARSTAPI
Grundarfjörður’s beautiful landmark is the most photographed mountain in Iceland. Its isolated position jutting out into the sea makes it a focal point for tourists and seamen alike.
Stykkishólmur is located by Breiðafjörður Bay on the north of Snæfellsnes peninsula, and is surrounded by wonderful views of the innumberable islands. One of the defining landmarks in Stykkishólmur are the old houses which reside in the old city center and this is reflected in the atmosphere – it sometimes feels like a place from a different time
Arnarstapi was an important trading post in the past and had a much bigger population than it has now. Columnar basalt, ravines and grottoes surround the Arnarstapi pier. There is good anchorage for small boats.

DAY 4 – GRÁBRÓK
Grábrók – The largest of three craters in a short volcanic fissure. Beautiful scenery over Borgarfjordur is from the top of the Grabrok crater. Mt. Grabrok can be ascended by a marked trail from the main Ring road no. 1.
Yes if nature is kind to us, more Northern Lights! Your guides are very experienced with great locations and the best techniques.
