WHAT’S THIS ADVENTURE ABOUT?
The Shetland Islands are a fantastic nature experience in the far north of Scotland. Join Darran and Julia for fantastic photo adventures from colourful puffins, to gannets, plus seascapes and other unique creative subjects.
The Shetland Islands is a series of islands high up towards the Arctic in Scotland. We explore ancient towers, beautiful landscapes, both in the northern islands and in the south, using very efficient ferry services.
However, it is the nature of these islands that will offer you the most incredible memories and shoot options. Your professional photo guides are very experienced at this form of photography and will work hard to maximise your results and experiences.
“Nature offers a lot of challenges and a lot of fantastic experiences. I love to help other photographers shoot results beyond a snap shot and reach creative goals that were not thought possible.” Darran

Itinerary to photo adventure…
DAY 1 – SHETLAND ISLANDS
We meet today at 3pm at reception, at our accommodation near Sumburgh Airport, Shetland. What a beautiful spot to start our adventure! Workshop shoot, followed by dinner. (We suggest that you arrive at least a day earlier to maximise your time and recover from jet lag. Julia can book this service.)
Accommodation Hotel – (D)
DAY 2 – SHETLAND
We meet our local guides this morning and drive north over the Mainland. Crossing the water by ferries to the low-lying island of Yell, we continue to our base on Unst. Great Skuas pass overhead and the surrounding meadows echo to the wild calls of Curlew and Whimbrel. It really does feel like a different world. Unst is the ultimate Shetland destination – the absolute end of every Great North Road in Britain, it has the northernmost of everything. It is also one of the most spectacular, varied and interesting islands in Europe.

DAYs 3&4 – SHETLAND
On our walk across the moorland to the wild and dramatic cliffs of Hermaness, the skies are full of soaring and displaying Great Skuas (in Shetland called Bonxies, meaning ‘dumpy bird’). As we reach the vast seabird cliffs and gannetry at Saito, a blizzard of gannets rides the updrafts, a sight that really does take your breath away! Puffins emerge from their burrows and scurry around our feet, as we look out to Muckle Flugga lighthouse and the small rocky island of ‘Oootsta’ or Out Stack– after which there is no more Britain!
