Our 20th tour to beautiful Alaska, (yes it is that good) will offer you a unique holiday! This is an exclusive WPA small group land based expedition for just 5-6 adventurers.

Pearce Leal will be the photo tutor for this adventure and while it will offer similar experiences to our Alaska 1 tour, it will vary by offering specific creative workshops, both indoor sessions and in the field. Pearce is a master at new and challenging ways to think about taking an image and processing techniques. Explore Alaska and your creative interests beyond your current boundaries with Pearce.

A continuous highlight of the expedition is the grandeur of scenery that is equal to the natural history spectacle provided by the animals. The Ice Kingdom and carving glaciers provide some of the most dramatic scenery in Southeast Alaska.

Everywhere there are snow-clad mountains cloaked in the intense green of old-growth forests. You will not only view these ancient forests, but you’ll explore the intimate life of their giant trees, mossy glades, berry patches, and babbling brooks. Some of the areas you will explore are salmon streams, forest edges, meadows, flower “gardens”, river flats, and muskegs—a mosaic of the habitats of Southeast—in addition to these ancient old growth forests. You will be following animal trails. In some cases you will literally be stepping in “grandfather’s” footsteps—the deep impressions made by brown bears walking in their same footsteps for years on end.

Join us for the holiday of a lifetime …

DAY 1 – Wrangell

June 26

We suggest that you arrive 48 hours prior to departure to minimise flight delays and jet lag. We include accommodation tonight in Wrangell.

Wrangell is a vibrant small village that offers a port and small community. It is easy to walk around and explore. We meet at reception at 5pm for information, a short workshop and our first group dinner.

DAY 2 – Alaskan Whales & Wilderness

June 27

Capture Alaska’s marine life, like whales, seals, and otters with your cameras in the complex maze of the forested islands, drift with whales as you explore the appealing shoreline. Whales will be a key subject in the very calm waterways of the region.

We spend quality time searching for these huge creatures. Plus you never know, we might see Orcas! The waters are flat as they are protected! Have lunch ashore and search the tide pools, artistic driftwood and image rich beaches. Subjects abound during this full day adventure.

DAY 3 – Alaskan Bears & Wilderness

June 28

We are up early and depart for Anan Creek. The bear adventures begin! An amazing place of mountains, ancient forests, new waterways and yes – great bears! (Mainly blackbears …)

We have quality shoot time in the hide and viewing platform. We head back slowly to Wrangell in our exclusive boat and look for more photographic subjects to shoot. A magic day of bears, landscapes, eagles and so much more. Plus, a workshop on processing your images for the best results. Pearce will show you thought provoking concepts.

DAY 4 – Alaskan Glaciers & Wilderness

June 29

Today is a different experience as we target the amazing blue ice of Leconte Glacier. We mix exploring blue ice and landscapes, with seals, moose and perhaps a bear. This is a very enjoyable jet boat trip on calm waters with loads of creative landscape and ice images. A great day also for creative subjects. Again, Pearce will push you to visualise a result from concept to shooting and processing.

Your professional photo guide will suggest some slow shutter imagery. Keep an eye out for bear! We return to our accommodation, right on the water and dinner. A chance to talk about the days adventures…
