WHAT’S THIS ADVENTURE ABOUT?
This is an exclusive small ship expedition with World Photo Adventures.
Our aim is to offer you the rare chance to target a magical winter wonderland expedition in the Arctic. We start and finish in Tromso, Norway. We mix exclusive small group cruising in protected fjords and waterways. While everything can be enjoyed and photographed from the ships deck, or during landings, we will also be offering the special chance to done a special (warm) wet suit and swim with whales – it is up to you.
You can target stunning Northern Lights, landscapes and unique creative shoots. The region also offers the largest gathering of Orca’s and Humpback whales in the world in the winter months in the Norwegian fjords. You can enjoy these spectacles on our exclusive expedition ship!
Our ship, the MV Freya is the perfect vessel as our exclusive base. Yes just our WPA group on board with your expert WPA photo guides. Our aim is to minimise rough seas and maximise your comfort and enjoyment. Our small group (maximum of 18 adventurers) are offered a very experienced skipper and crew. Cabins and facilities are very comfortable. What a unique opportunity!
We are also offering a linked land tour in Norway to specifically target stunning new Northern Lights, landscapes and creative photo interests – an ultimate northern experience.

THE ITINERARY …
On this exciting Arctic adventure, our aim is to offer you a very unique experience and target landscapes and nature that can be rare or very unique.
Imagine joining a small group of around 16, on an exclusive ship and sailing in calm and protected water, searching for whales, nature subjects and stunning landscapes. Our ship offers a huge deck area!
We will land each day and at night, look for the famed Northern Lights. Nature guarantees nothing, but what we can guarantee is that the skipper, crew and your WPA team will work hard to offer the best available experiences.
NORTHERN LIGHTS AND AMAZING SCENERY!
Spotting the dancing lights, known as Aurora Borealis, is a bucket list item for many travellers. From the end of September until the beginning of April is the best time to spot it. Especially during the long winter days of January, you are more likely to spot the dancing lights. As you might know, it is a natural phenomenon, therefore it is never guaranteed that it is visible on a given day. So we back ourselves up by offering several days.
The expedition cruise takes you through the majestic fjords of northern Norway. The snowy mountain peaks rise up from the fjords, which makes for breathtaking scenery.

9 DAYS – 8 NIGHTS
Note that we include one nights accommodation (DAY 1) in a 4 Star hotel before the cruise departure and one nights accommodation in a 4 Star hotel on return (DAY 8) as part of your package, as per itinerary.
Subject to interest, we will offer an optional dog sled excursion or snowmobile safari. Please ask Julia.
YOUR ITINERARY TO ADVENTURE…
DAY 1 – TROMSØ
January 5
You should arrive in Tromsø, Norway, today at the latest!
This city is found just above the Arctic circle and known to be the ‘Gateway to the Arctic’ and the starting point for many polar expeditions in the past. The city is surrounded by mountains and fjords and is the world’s capital for Northern Light observations! Visit the Polar Museum for a fascinating tour through polar history. We meet at 5pm for further information and our first group dinner.

DAY 2 – TROMSØ – CRUISING
January 6
In the afternoon we board the ship and make ourself feel at home for the next few days. Our cosy cabins are fantastic, but it is the lounge where we will spend time for workshops and then the spacious deck that you will want to have your camera ready for unique image making. After dinner, we say goodbye to Tromsø and start our Northern Light Cruise! Tonight could be the first night for northern lights! Your professional photo guides will help you maximise these opportunities.

DAYs 3 to 7: CRUISING THE FJORDS
January 7/8/9/10/11
During five full days, we sail through the beautiful fjords of northern Norway and spend our days with whale watching, shore visits and zodiac rides. This portion of the itinerary will be customised by your guides and our experienced skipper to suit the needs of the group and to focus on Northern Light photography opportunities. We will target stunning Northern Lights, landscapes and unique creative shoots. The region also offers the largest gathering of Orca’s and Humpback whales in the world in the winter months in the Norwegian fjords.
