WHAT’S THIS ADVENTURE ABOUT?
We base ourselves at the islands beautiful resort, 89 kms from Gladstone Queensland on the Great Barrier Reef. This is the perfect location to experience the reef, plus thousands of nesting birds, sea turtles, rare turtle hatchling shoots plus we photograph a very wide range of subjects from macro to stunning creative images. Shoots are only limited to your imagination. Most importantly, your professional photo guides can spend quality time helping you to improve and help you to understand key points like visualisation and processing.
We include 5 days at Heron Island Resort – world class photo tuition, plus details as per itinerary. We limit the group size to 6/7 photographers per tutor. This will offer you personalised assistance in the field!
Flights are available via Brisbane to Gladstone. You have transport options to the island from Gladstone, starting as low as $75 one way on the island’s large fast cat boat. Island transfers are not included. However, Julia is happy to book these for you. WPA is also offering to charter a helicopter flight from Gladstone to Heron. This offers stunning views of the Great Barrier Reef. Very spectacular! Prices will start from around $500pp and depends on interest. Your guides will be flying by chopper. WHAT ARE OUR WORKSHOPS ABOUT?
They are different to our tours in that we are often based at one stunning location. This offers you quality time, plus it allows us to offer more workshops – both in the field and indoors including processing and creative facets to improving your photography.
Here are the key points why you should join a WPA workshop:
1. Most land costs are included, with great accommodation, meals and activities as per itinerary.
2. We limit the group size to 6/7 per tutor. This offers you personal assistants and the chance to do more ONE ON ONE work with one of the world’s leading photo tutors.
3. We help everyone from novice to a seasoned enthusiast.
4. Your imagery comes first – not the tutors!
5. We set challenges and offer fun concepts to help you understand photography better and to help you reach your creative goals.
DAY 1 – ARRIVE HERON ISLAND
You can arrive on Heron Island via their fast cat transfer that arrives just after midday, or by helicopter. Transfers are not included. Julia is happy to book your transfer option and book extra nights accommodation if you want to extend your stay. Everyone is offered a base orientation and shown to rooms. We have booked the Reef Room – Located on beautiful North Beach, Reef Rooms are comfortable and spacious with an en-suite bathroom with shower and an outdoor terrace with filtered views through the natural vegetation overlooking the
reef. The Reef Room is 21.85 sqm in size, and features: One Queen bed and one Single bed – Private terrace. We meet at 3pm and include a workshop to cover basics and beyond this afternoon, plus a short island walk to shoot sunset and birds. As we are on the Great Barrier Reef, anyone from novice to advanced swimmers can have fun snorkelling just metres from their doorstep. Tips and techniques will be offered by your tutors. We include workshops during the week, to cover processing, creativity, landscapes, nature and people. Dinner tonight at the resort is part of your package. A great chance to talk about photography. DAYs 2/3/4 – ISLAND PARADISE
Three full days of field workshops and hours of shooting opportunities. Even night shoots are possible for turtles. A key shoot will be discovering hatchlings and photographing these miniature creatures. A special experience for all! Some subjects you can shoot very close to your room. Others you will need to be careful that you do not ‘walk on’. Thousands of birds plus amazing reef shoots at low tide are followed by the chance to shoot turtles at night. Look out for\ orange hermit crabs, cute baby birds and beautiful sunrises and sunsets. Cute turtle hatchlings are a special photo opportunity at this time of the year. (B)
