This is an Ultimate South America Photo Adventure!
“We return to one of the greatest nature experiences on our plant – Brazil’s Pantanal. I can say this as I have taken groups to many such locations, but none offer the raw wild adventures of Jaguar tracking from a boat, birds of various sizes and colours up close and land experiences that are simply too incredible to describe. You have to experience them yourself!” Darran
AND you can join Darran and Julia for the chance to brag that you not only had so many incredible experiences, but that you literally flew around the world! Few traveller get to do this on holiday! Our two Brazil tours link up to our Madagascar tour!
The Pantanal is a vast natural region located in the heart of South America encompassing the World’s largest tropical flooded wetland. Although is shared by Brazil, Bolivia and Paraguay, more than 70 % of the Pantanal floodplain is located in the Brazilian states of MatoGrosso do Sul., covering an area of more than 138,183 square kilometers. Though the Amazon rainforest is well known worldwide due to its diversity, the Pantanal offers more number of visible species and individuals and is one of the most productive wildlife habitats on Earth in terms of photogenic wildlife! Iconic species such as yacare caimans, capybaras, anacondas, ocelots, rheas, marsh deer, crab-eating raccoons, tapirs, peccaries, giant otters, jabirus, toucans, flocks of numerous species of parrots, parakeets, ibises, plus giant anteaters and jaguars, among many others, transform the Pantanal in a dream for any demanding wildlife photographer!
TWO TOURS
Tour 1 explores the Atlantic rainforest of Brazil with over 16 hummingbird species, plus waterfalls and other great nature subjects. Tour 2 is different in that it is drier country and new species with Jaguar being a major target, plus birds and more nature.

YOUR ITINERARY TO PHOTO ADVENTURE…
DAY 1 – CUIABA
August 20
We meet at 4pm this afternoon for a briefing on the adventures ahead and for your first workshop. This is followed by a welcome to Brazil dinner.
Hotel accommodation – (D)
DAY 2 – CUIABÁ –TRANSPANTANEIRA HIGHWAY
August 21
We drive southwards to Poconé and along the Transpantaneira, an elevated road of 160 km. Quickly you will see the savanna – the Pantanal. It is made up of dozens of rivers which eventually reach the Cuiabá River. The Transpantaneira is an excellent road for seeing and photographing the abundant wildlife of the region, as the ponds and pools at both sides concentrate a surprising diversity of wildlife even during the dry season. Caimans, capybaras, marsh deer, jabiru storks, roseate spoonbills and many species of kingfishers. Accommodation for 2 nights in a lovely Lodge. This includes nocturnal exploration in search of wildlife.
Lodge accommodation – (B,L,D)
DAY 3 – PANTANAL – POUSO ALEGRE RANCH
August 22
Full day for exploring the savannahs, wetlands and forests. We will look for spectacled caimans, Brazilian tapirs, black- collared hawks, Amazon kingfishers, wattled jacanas, and many other species. These creatures frequent the ponds and flooded areas. The savannahs and forests are the habitat of the giant anteater, greater rheas, coatis and several black-and golden howler monkeys. Very close to the lodge nests two pairs of habituated hyacinth macaws, the biggest parrots on Earth.

DAYs 4 & 5 – SANTA TEREZA RANCH
August 23/24
We drive southwards along the Transpantaneira and after 2 1⁄2 hours, we arrive to Santa Tereza Ranch, where we will stay for the next 2 days. The ranch has an excellent history of protecting the local ecosystems and avoiding poaching, and that’s why the wildlife is so abundant and approachable. The area also offers photogenic and habituated groups of giant river otters (an extremely endangered species), nesting jabiru storks (accessible from observation towers close to the nests), Brazilian tapirs and groups of capuchin monkeys, as well as active black-collared hawks that fish piranhas close to the lodge. The number of birds around the house is amazing: colourful tanagers, wattled jacanas, turquoise-fronted parrots, tropical-screech owls, squirrel cuckoos and so much more.
Accommodation at Ranch for 2 nights – (B,L,D)
