* Fantastic nature.
* Professional WPA Photo guide – your images come first!
* All accommodation – hotel/lodge.
* Small group.
WHAT’S THIS ADVENTURE ABOUT?
We are targeting one of Australia’s iconic locations – Central Australia and namely the spectacular regions to the west of Alice springs and then onto Watarrka National Park (Kings Canyon) and finally Uluru/Katatjuta National Park. Three world class locations!
Central Australia is one of those special places that you need to tick off your bucket list. This is a unique adventure as we include lodge/motel wilderness type accommodation for your comfort, but mix in the rugged landscapes and opportunistic encounters with nature that this region is famous for.
We include 8 nights accommodation at quality 3 Star lodges – world class photo tuition, plus all meals as per itinerary. We do not include transport, but can help with 4WD pooling and you have the option to use your own vehicle. Julia will put you in contact with other group members. We have used the vehicle pooling system many times as it offers more flexibility and cost savings.
We limit the group size to 4/5 photographers per tutor. This will offer you personalised assistance in the field! You just need to get yourself to Alice Springs. Julia is happy to help you with the best options.
Nothing delights the lens like striking contrasts of landscapes and nature, and Central Australia serves these up in abundance — vibrant and wild landscapes, captivating wildlife and fantastic creative shoots.

Itinerary to photo adventure…
DAY 1 – DESERT WILDLIFE PARK
GLENN HELEN GORGE LODGE
WEST MACDONNELL RANGES (Tjoritja)
We meet at the Desert Wildlife Park (7kms from Alice) at 11am (sharp) for a tour talk and lunch. (Included) After lunch, we offer a short workshop at the park to help you get the most from this great park. We then shoot in the many different habitats offered. Some of the birds are nearly impossible to photograph in the wild. You also get to experience a bird flying display. Your professional photo guides will help you with the best settings and techniques. We depart to the newly refurbished Glenn Helen Gorge Lodge in time to book in and for a sunset shoot of Mt Sonder. Dinner is included tonight. This evening we shoot near the lodge for Astro images. A lot of fun and what a diverse first day!
Accommodation in Lodge – (L,D)
DAY 2 – EXPLORE WEST MACDONNELL RANGES
We are up early for that great first light. Ormiston Gorge is just one target along with nature shoots from flowers to birds. This afternoon includes another workshop on processing, followed by a sunset shoot of Mt Sonder. This evening we shoot near the lodge for Astro images.
Accommodation in Lodge.
DAY 3 – EXPLORE WEST MACDONNELL RANGES
Another full day in the region is mixed with landscapes, nature and we target some creative shoots. Darran has lived in the region and visited many times. He will maximise the days adventures to the current seasonal variations. Again, we include an Astro shoot.
DAY 4 – WEST MACDONNELL RANGES TO
WATARRKA NATIONAL PARK (Kings Canyon)
We take the back ring road (vehicle permit required, Julia will help), taking our time to stop opportunistically for nature shoots. We arrive in the afternoon to Kings Canyon where we have time to explore near the lodge.
DAY 5 – EXPLORE KINGS CANYON
We depart early and walk the Kings Canyon loop track. The Rim Walk will take you on a 6 kilometre circuit transcending down into the Garden of Eden and back to the top to stunning 360 degree views. We will take our time to shoot different angles and perhaps capture birds and reptile images as well. This afternoon you have time to explore your own photo interests, or join your guides in the field.
